I joined Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1987 for Doctoral Programme and did research in soil behavior and unsaturated soils. I worked in Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi for about four years and in Purdue University Lafayette for a year during 1992-97. During my stay at Purdue during 1995-96, I was drawn towards probabilistic modeling as it offers a means of handling uncertainties and variability in Geotechnical Engineering. Soil variability influences the geotechnical responses such as stress mobilization, failure mechanisms, flow patterns and variations of stresses and deformations and hence the performance of geotechnical system cannot be assessed with certainty. Hence in the recent years, I have been working in the area of reliability analysis of geotechnical systems such as buried pipes, shallow and deep foundations, slopes, retaining walls, reinforced retaining walls etc. I have been dealing with geosynthetics and soil reinforcement since 1992 after joining Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi as Scientist. I have been working on the use of geosynthetics and soil nailing & soil reinforcement in many slope stability and ground improvement projects and compiled guidelines for soil nailing for Highway Engineering which are published by Indian Roads Congress (IRC). Earthquake of Bhuj during 2001 in India spurred some work in the area of Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering. I worked in collaboration projects on shear strength and settlement response of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) during 95-1996 at Purdue University, Lafayette USA and also on stability of clay cover and liner systems in Germany as Humboldt Fellow during 1999-2000. In collaboration with Prof. Krishna R. Reddy, Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering University of Illinois at Chicago and it has been possible to develop a constitutive model for MSW. A few consulting works led to interesting geotechnical solutions and formed the basis for research ideas and publications. Hence, you find my publications in the following areas; 350c69d7ab
